The Big & Awesome Bridges of Portland & Vancouver--A Book for Young Readers & Their Teachers is being written by Sharon Wood Wortman and Ed Wortman, edited by Edith Fuller (a former district librarian for Portland Public Schools), and designed by four of Portland Community College's class of 2013 Graphic Design Program graduates. Big & Awesome is being sponsored by PDX Bridge Festival, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. A mostly volunteer project, the goal is to give 4,000 free books to PPS third grade classrooms and Vancouver Public School and Evergreen School District elementary school libraries. Bridges have been taught as part of PPS third-grade social studies curriculum since at least the 1950s, but there has never been a book just for students and teachers. The goal is to print a hardcover, full-color book of 160 durable pages in the U.S.
To get there, the Big & Awesome team needs your help. They still haven't raised all the money they need to go to print, but they remain hopeful. Please help them spread the word about the new book. All donors for the book will be gratefully acknowledged. To donate (all donations are tax-deductible) just click this button:
